Next Generation HPC Systems and the Grid
10-11 September, 2001
Full programme for both days now availableInvited Speakers
The SeminarAs part of the UK High End Computing (UKHEC) collaboration, EPCC is organising the Second UKHEC Annual Seminar. This year's event is sponsored by Sun Microsystems. The annual seminars are intended to provide opportunities for scientists and engineers to keep up to date with the latest high-end computing research in the UK and beyond. The themes for this year's seminar should be particularly topical. The first day will cover "Programming Next Generation High-End Systems." With EPSRC's HPC(X) procurement due early next year, it is important for prospective users to understand the techniques which have been developed to programme next generation architectures, particularly through ASCI-class SMP clusters. This will be followed by a day on "Exploiting the Computational Grid." While there is currently a lot of talk (and money!) linked with the Grid, it is still far from clear how users can benefit from it - we will attempt to shine some light on this.
ProgrammeIn addition to the invited speakers above, there will be a number of presentations from the members of the UKHEC Collaboration. See the full programme for further details.Lunch will be provided on both days and a free evening dinner will be held on Monday 10th September in the Playfair Library at Edinburgh University's Old College. Further details of the evening dinner are available here. Getting HereThis event will be held at the University of Edinburgh Conference and Training Centre 11 South College Street, Edinburgh EH8 9AA.
