UKHEC has, over the last two years, identified and evaluated
programming methodology which we believe will be of long-term benefit
in developing and using HPC applications for scientific
research. There has been a clear focus on the computational Grid for
enhanced access to and efficient use of resources from the desktop to
high end. The Globus middle-ware provides capabilities to integrate HPC
applications with an accepted Internet security infrastructure to
exploit distributed resources including parallel systems,
visualisation, databases and instruments.
The talk will show where UKHEC has been active in promoting the
computational Grid and illustrate how Web portals and Expert systems
can now be developed to allow a non specialist to use HPC applications
routinely in many research areas for simulation and data analysis.
