We present the first running prototype of EPCC's ePortal, a fully
service-based and user-driven Grid portal for large-scale computational
e-science. The aim of ePortal is to allow scientists to select a
service to run their particular jobs using their favourite application,
but in a transparent way that frees them from the details of the
computing and allows them to concentrate on the science. ePortal
builds on the system-neutral Internet standards of Java-2 and XML and
offers a flexible, extensible service-based architecture. Our results
demonstrate a prototype version of ePortal running services for the UK
Magnetohydrodynamics scientific consortium.
