Second UKHEC Annual Seminar Abstract

Software Environments for Federating Computational Resources

Effectively exploiting the distributed heterogeneous resource that comprise the Grid requires information. Information relating to the user's requirements, information relating to the needs of the application and its structure, and information relating to the capability and current capacity of the Grid's resources. The Parallel Software Group in the Department of Computing at Imperial College (part of the London E-Science Centre) is developing a Java and Jini architecture that utilises existing Grid middleware to enable optimal resource exploitation within the policies of the user and resource provider. The talk will descibe this onging work and the future plans for the deployment of grid infrastructures within local and national testbed programs.
