The DSG Grid Portal
The Globus toolkit is middle-ware that allows users to access and manage
distributed resources across the Grid. However, providing end users with
practical and easy to use tools to link together these distributed
resources
requires an additional software layer. Grid Portals attempts to provide
such
a software layer in terms of Web based services for end users to utilize
the
Grid. In this talk, we will give an overview of the basic services and
architecture of DSGPortal, a portal implemented by the Distributed
Systems
Group at Portsmouth. To illustrate DSGPortal's usage, we will describe a
prototype computational portal for modelling liquid crystals structures,
called LC Portal.

Grid Resource Monitoring with GridRM
Wide-area distributed system, such the as Grid, require that an
extensive amount of data is collected for a variety of tasks such as
fault
detection and performance monitoring, analysis, prediction and tuning.
While
a variety of different systems exist for monitoring and managing
distributed
Grid-based resources and applications, we believe none completely fulfil
the
criteria desired in today's Grid-based environments. In this talk, we
present
and describe GridRM, a generic open-source architecture for monitoring
Grid
resources, using the Global Grid Forum's Grid Monitoring Architecture,
Java-based technologies, a relational database, and SNMP.
